Micro Poetry 1

As I was browsing the Twitter page of Labi Siffre last night, I spotted that he'd been partaking in the art of "Micro Poetry". Basically, it involves writing short poems that fit within the confines of a 140-character Twitter tweet (unless I've missed some other Haiku-style rules).

Having just 140 characters to play with might not seem a lot, especially when you also add a #micropoetry "hashtag" to the post, but it can be good fun to try to convey an image in so few characters.

Anyway, I just wanted to capture two of my own micropoetry compositions here on my blog before they get lost in the depths of Twitter for ever. See, what you think.

Jeremy Kyle Viewers

They look down their nose
as they sit in their chairs
watching shows about those
with lives just like theirs.

Emotion of War

For old Harriers we weep
For new carriers we cheer
Let us all celebrate
that war is still here!

Both poems are UK specific so I should probably just explain a little bit about them for those readers from abroad.

The first is about the Jerry Springer-style freak show that's on daytime TV here in the UK, and the second is an ironic comment on the recent defence cuts announced by the UK government.

I'll post any other micro-poems that I come up with in the future that I think you might like.
